Instagram Reels Scam Alert: Users Warned About Fraudulent Offers


Many warnings have been given that new scams targeting Instagram reels to its users. Online fraudsters offer rewards; that is, cash rewards and prizes for viewing various reels. It promises a quick payback but instead drains out personal information or may introduce malware in the person's device.


It works by luring its users to click on malice in the captions of Instagram Reels. A click sends a victim a survey asking for personal data or nudges him to install suspicious apps, which is very risky for security and personal data. Experts believe everyone should keep away from any kind of involvement with unknown accounts and links.


Impact: As of now, this phishing scam has not been attributed to any big data breach. However, cyber security experts say that the social media scams targeting its social media users are on the increase. The trend represents a call to step up people's awareness and alertness in using social media.


A cyber crime expert, Sarah Martinez notes: "Fraudsters basically target social media such as Instagram with the user's vast numbers. They have always told users to always check and be wary about details provided online," she further notes. Conclusion: Instagram has nothing to say about the recent scam but it asks users to notify about any suspicious accounts and contents. For higher safety, Instagram advises that a two-factor authentication on be switched on and nothing known be clicked.
